What an authorised valve distributor guarantees

TL;DR

An authorised valve distributor holds a written appointment from the manufacturer, which guarantees you genuine product, current designs, factory support and a traceable warranty chain. Optimus Distributor was appointed authorised distributor for KITZ Valve in 2019 and holds authorised distributorships for KITZ, Yoshitake, Pettinaroli, DFT and DTL. This article explains what an appointment covers, what it does not, and how to verify any distributor's claim before ordering.

01What an appointment actually is

"Authorised distributor" is not a marketing phrase — it is a legal relationship. The manufacturer issues a written appointment naming the company, the product lines it may represent and the territory it serves, and reviews that appointment on the factory's own terms. The obligations run both ways: the distributor commits to stocking, representing and supporting the line properly; the factory commits to supplying that channel with genuine product and to standing behind what flows through it.

Our own appointments are on the record. Optimus Distributor was "Appointed Authorized Distributor for KITZ Valve in 2019" — the wording published on our About page — and we hold authorised distributorships for five makers: KITZ, Yoshitake, Pettinaroli, DFT, DTL. We also carry lines from other principals; the distinction between those two words matters, and we keep it deliberately (more on that below).

02Genuine product and traceability

The first thing an appointment buys you is boring and priceless: the valve in the carton is the valve the factory made. Stock in an authorised channel arrives from the manufacturer or the manufacturer's own regional operation — not from a chain of intermediaries nobody can name. That means the cast body markings, the nameplate, the heat number and the test documentation all belong together, and the factory can trace them back to a production batch if a question is ever raised.

Counterfeit and re-marked valves are a real problem in the general market, and they are invisible at the price-comparison stage — a fake looks cheapest right up until it is in the line. Traceability is the defence, and it is precisely the thing a grey-channel bargain cannot produce. We priced this failure mode out in why the cheapest valve usually costs the most.

03Factory support and current designs

Manufacturers revise products constantly — seat materials change, trims are superseded, series are replaced. An authorised distributor sells the current revision, knows what superseded what, and can tell you when the "same" valve from an old stock lot is not actually the same valve. That knowledge comes from the factory relationship: product bulletins, training, and a direct line to the maker's own application engineers when a duty is unusual.

The warranty chain works the same way. When a genuine valve bought through the appointed channel has a problem, the claim runs distributor-to-factory with the paperwork intact — no arguing about provenance first. It is also what makes real engineering support possible on our side: we sit down with your engineers to make sure you get the right solution, and we can escalate to the factory when a question outruns us. Our KITZ line page shows what that looks like for our largest line.

04What authorisation does not promise

An honest article has to draw the boundary. An appointment does not mean the lowest price in the market — a grey importer with no support obligations can always undercut a supported channel. It does not mean every item in the maker's catalogue sits on a local shelf; stock and indent are separate questions, covered in how to check stock availability and lead time. It does not by itself mean exclusivity — appointment terms vary by maker and territory. And it cannot rescue a wrong specification: a genuine valve applied to the wrong duty fails just as expensively as a fake, which is why selection comes first in our duty-first selection guide.

05Authorised distributor, principal, reseller — who is who

Three words get blurred in supplier conversations, and the blur is where weak claims hide. A principal is the manufacturer itself — the party whose name is cast into the body. An authorised distributor holds that principal's written appointment. A reseller buys and sells the product without any appointment — sometimes perfectly legitimately, but with nothing behind the transaction except the transaction.

We apply this vocabulary to ourselves. Five of our lines are authorised distributorships; brands such as Tiemme sit with us as principals whose products we carry and support. Keeping those labels straight on our own brand wall is a small thing, but it is the same discipline you should demand from anyone quoting you.

06How to verify any distributor's claim

Authorisation is checkable in an afternoon, and a genuine holder will not mind you checking. Five steps:

  1. Ask to see the appointment. A written appointment exists on paper; a company that holds one can show the relevant page.
  2. Check the maker's own website. Most manufacturers publish their distributor or partner listings by country.
  3. Look for a public, dated claim. A real appointment is stated openly, with a year — ours reads "Appointed Authorized Distributor for KITZ Valve in 2019", published where anyone can read it.
  4. Ask where stock ships from and whether factory test certificates accompany the goods.
  5. When in doubt, email the factory. Principals answer this question quickly, because their brand is what a fake damages.

Run the same five steps on us — then, when the spec is ready, here is how ordering and technical support work.
